If a NFL franchise only has one Super Bowl title to its credit, the odds of that championship-winning squad being the best team in the organization's history are pretty high. As is the case for the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles, the fact that this team managed to finally capture the franchise's first ever Super Bowl title is only coupled with the fact that this team also took down one of the most infamous organizations in the history of the NFL in the sometimes New England Patriots.

In addition to finally bringing the Lombardi Trophy to the “City of Brotherly Love,” the 2017 Eagles also became just the second team ever to defeat future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady in a Super Bowl as the Patriots finished their improbably successful run at 6-3 all time in Brady-led title games.

Brady and company previously lost in the Super Bowl on two separate occasions with an arch rival of the Eagles in the New York Giants taking down the Patriots each time.

Prior to the 2017 campaign, one that saw the Eagles win the NFC East division and finish the regular season at a stellar 13-3, Philadelphia had won three NFL Championships while appearing in a pair of Super Bowls.

Unfortunately, though, the Eagles would always come up just shy upon reaching the Super Bowl by way of winning a NFC Championship — until now.

Leading to the team's most infamous stretch of success in team history, the Eagles kicked off the 2017 regular season by winning 11 of the team's first 13 games. Despite the team riding incredibly high come Week 15 against the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Carson Wentz was lost for the season midway through the contest.

The league MVP frontrunner tore his ACL, paving the way for his backup Nick Foles to step up to the plate. Foles would promptly lead the Eagles to a 2-1 record to conclude the regular season before producing a perfect 3-0 record come playoff time.

Eventually becoming the Super Bowl LII MVP, thanks in part to his role in the now infamous and unforgettable “Philly Special,” Foles and company took down both the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings before squaring off against the aforementioned Patriots.

Winning Super Bowl LII by the score of 41-33 as a result of an absolute shootout between Foles and Brady, the Eagles captured the first ever Super Bowl title in franchise history in just head coach Doug Pederson's second season as a NFL head coach. As one can imagine, it is nearly impossible to win a Super Bowl with a journeyman backup quarterback; Foles has since become a legend in the city of Philadelphia.

It should also be noted that while Super Bowl LII obviously ended on the highest note for the Eagles, this matchup against the Patriots will go down as one of the best games in NFL history. With Brady and the Patriots playing in a few memorable Super Bowls, this still remains near the top of the list for New England too.
