The Kansas City Chiefs finally got over the hump this season. Andy Reid finally captured that elusive Super Bowl title and he did it with the best quarterback in the league in Patrick Mahomes. On April 23, Kansas City will take a short break from celebrating to focus on the NFL Draft. The Chiefs do not have many needs on the offensive side of the ball. Their biggest need is at running back.

Kansas City holds the final pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. That is the perfect position for the Chiefs to draft a running back. Damien Williams came into training camp before the season as the starting back. He sustained some injuries which made Kansas City look for other options. They traded Carlos Hyde to the Houston Texans and picked up LeSean McCoy after he was let go by the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs used a package of Williams and McCoy throughout the season and that is something they need to address.

Chiefs Could Land RB1 in Draft

The Chiefs' offense is dynamic. Mahomes has some of the best weapons to throw to. Tyreek Hill is the fastest player in the league and Travis Kelce is arguably the league's top tight end. No, George Kittle has not surpassed him just yet. Could you imagine the offense if they added a three down running back?

D'Andre Swift is the top running back prospect in the upcoming draft class. Swift ran for 1,218 yards at Georgia in 2019. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry against some of the toughest defenses in the country. There are some big time names such as J.K. Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor at the running back position but Swift tops them all. And he will be on the board.

The days of drafting a running back high in the first round are over. Every now and then, a team will hit on a franchise back such as Ezekiel Elliott but it is rare. Running backs are a dime a dozen in the NFL. Teams are using multiple players at the position now. Just look at the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants. They are two teams that could have used their top picks in a much better way.

This could work in the Chiefs favor. At No. 32, the Chiefs can do whatever they want. Coming off a Super Bowl title, there is really no pressure on them. Kansas City might have a chance to take any running back in the class. Adding Swift would make the Kansas City offense even better, if that is possible.
