The so-called “Jordan Rules” was a type of defense that the Detroit Pistons employed to stop Michael Jordan and consequently, the Chicago Bulls. In the sports documentary “The Last Dance,” a former coach of the ‘Bad Boys' shared exactly what the Jordan Rules were.

According to Brendan Malone, the Jordan Rules followed relatively simple defensive principles: do not let him drive baseline, make him go to the left — his nondominant hand, and trap him in the post. But when all else fails and he gets to the paint, the Jordan Rules state that Michael Jordan should be knocked to the ground.

That type of defense will not be allowed in today's game. When NBA fanatics say that today's league is softer than ever, they allude to the Bad Boys of Detroit who practically bruised anyone that came into the paint. If you're the best player on your team, expect to get beat up. More so if your name is Michael Jordan.

Yet there are some who are not impressed by this defensive philosophy. Some say that the Pistons couldn't really play legitimate defense so they just employed barbaric ways.

Be as it may, the Bad Boys of Detroit are one of the most iconic teams in league history. During their heyday, they won back-to-back titles and were legitimate title contenders for several years.

There will never be a team like them not just because they played with the utmost passion and intensity. But also because they treated basketball not as a game but as bloodsport.
