LOS ANGELES – The L.A. Clippers won their fourth game in their last five outings, capped by their latest victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, 118-107. Lou Williams led the way in scoring for the Clippers with a season-high 36 points off the bench and Danilo Gallinari added 19 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Friday night's game was an ugly game in the first half with the Clippers shooting 39.6 percent from the field in the first half to the Lakers' 38.6 percent. It felt like the kind of game the Clippers should've broken open at some point in the first half, but the Lakers ability to stay in the game and even take a 6 point lead late made the game's outlook a bit concerning for Doc Rivers' team.

The second half was the Lou Williams show, however, and he willed the Clippers to a win with a much-needed season-high scoring effort. Here are my three ClutchTakes from last night's game.

–A Rare 22-0 Run–

The Clippers trailed by seven points late in the third quarter and it felt like a game the Lakers were getting ready to take over. Instead, it was an 8-0 run to end the third and a 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter that took the Clippers from down seven to up 15 over a 4 minute and 30 second game span.

In that run, it was the play of ‘Goon Squad' members Sindarius Thornwell, Ty Wallace, and Montrezl Harrell led by Williams.

“We didn’t have anything,” said head coach Doc Rivers. “We were flat and we just searched for a lineup. We put Sindarius at the four, we have never done that, with Ty [Wallace], Pat [Beverley], Lou [Williams], and Trez [Harrell]. We just put the bulldogs on the floor. Our defensive fight was amazing. We were undersized, but we rebounded well. We got our hands on the ball. We took them out of their transition game. It changed the game for us.”

–No. 23 Puts On A Show–

Despite LeBron James sitting out due to injury, Lakers fans witnessed a familiar No. 23 put on a show on Friday night as Lou Williams turned in a season-best scoring effort with 36 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 11-of-11 from the free throw line. He also added seven rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes.

“He’s a professional scorer, and he knows how to score,” added Rivers postgame. “We were running a set where if you force him to the right, he gets a layup. If you force him to the left, well you can’t force him to the left. He’s just a really smart player. He’s also an excellent passer, which I don’t think he gets enough credit for.”

Williams wasn't even concerned with the Lakers being without James, saying that worrying about who won't play will get you beat by the guys who are playing.

“You have to game plan for the guys they’re going to put out on the floor,” said Williams. “If you go into a game worrying about who’s not playing, you’re going to get killed by the guys that are in front of you. We knew he was out days ago, and we game planned against the guys that we were going to play.”

–Surprise Performances–

On a night where the Clippers starters as well as their usual reserves couldn't get anything going, it was Sindarius Thornwell (seven points, two rebounds, one steal, +16 in just nine minutes) and Ty Wallace (six points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals, +13 in just 10 minutes) who sparked the team when they needed it most.

“We're a deep basketball team,” Lou Williams said after the game. “We've got a lot of guys that can come in from the drop of a hat and give us positive minutes. For the most part, I think we had our core second group out there when we got some chemistry and the other guys kind of understand how we play. It was good for us.”

The Clippers will take on the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night while the Lakers host the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
