The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to take on the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors for the first time this season on Wednesday night at home.

It has brought to the forefront reigning league MVP playing against Kevin Durant for just the second time back at Chesapeake Energy Arena since he made the decision to sign with the Warriors back in July of 2016. When asked about if the meeting is just another game for him, reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook had a straightforward response, according to Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript.

It is likely that this game has a little more meaning to him, but the fact that he's been asked about Kevin Durant and the Warriors on countless occasions it has likely worn thin on him. This has created a natural reaction from Westbrook to downplay facing his former teammate.

There are numerous factors that have made this an intriguing matchup beyond just their once close bond when they were teammates such as the simple fact that they are two of the most talented players in the league. It is premiere star power that features two players having had an awkward separation and friendship since then.

It should make for another entertaining game on Wednesday that should provide huge performances for both respective players. Beyond this storyline, it is also a chance for the Thunder to see how they matchup against the Warriors and see what adjustments need to be made in order to legitimately challenge them in the playoffs. Ultimately, there are clearly several different reasons to tune in on Wednesday night.
