After eclipsing Oscar Robertson’s record number of triple-doubles in a single season (42) en route to being the first player since the “Big O” to average such statistical feat for a full season, Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook has once again surpassed Robertson for another historic mark: the most triple-doubles in a calendar year.
Westbrook clinched his 35th triple-double of 2017 — and his league-leading ninth of the 2017-18 season — in the Thunder’s 100-95 win over the Indiana Pacers as he dropped 10 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists.
However, it should be noted that Westbrook went just 3-of-17 in that game, and his 17.6 field goal percentage is the lowest of all his 88 career triple-doubles, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Nevertheless, 35 triple-doubles in a calendar year is still a terrific feat by Russell Westbrook, who still has a good 10 games to go in 2017 to further extend his new record.
With the Thunder superstar making triple-doubles such a regular occurrence these days, he's quickly running out of triple-double records to set. Although, he's on pace to do what he did last year, which is equally as impressive.
Russell Westbrook still has 55 games left in order to average a triple-double for the second year running. He’s currently at 22.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 9.9 assists through 27 games.
