The Detroit Tigers are hiring Scott Harris to be their new president of baseball operations, per Jeff Passan. Harris, formerly the GM of the San Francisco Giants, will be charged with leading the Tigers' rebuild.

The Tigers entered the 2022 campaign with lofty aspirations. They had signed Javier Baez and Eduardo Rodriguez over the offseason, while they had young prospects such as Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene looming in the minor leagues. But Detroit has failed to produce much in the way of success. The majority of their storylines have revolved around their historically bad offense, Javier Baez' underwhelming performance, and Spencer Torkelson not living up to the hype.

As a result, the Tigers will likely go into another rebuild this offseason. And they need someone spearheading the operation capable of building a winner. Jeff Passan revealed the encouraging reputation of Scott Harris.

“Harris' rise in the industry has been meteoric and he's been seen as a future front-office star. Now he'll run the show in Detroit,” Passan tweeted.

The Tigers should be in good hands with Scott Harris. But their timetable as far as winning goes is still unclear. They have a number of young and exciting players in their farm system. Nevertheless, this ball club still appears to be a long ways away from winning. They simply have too many question marks and underperforming players.

Detroit believes Harris can lead the Tigers back to the playoffs down the road.

This is a great opportunity for Harris as well. He will get to run the show in Detroit and showcase his rumored star-studded ability in the front office.
