It is game two of a four-game weekend series as the Detroit Tigers visit the Boston Red Sox. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Tigers-Red Sox prediction and pick.
The Tigers enter the series sitting at 27-28 on the year. They come into the series off a doubleheader against the Pirates. The Tigers won the first game, winning the first game of the doubleheader 8-0, but losing the second game 10-2. The Red Sox come into the series at 28-28 on the year, which is good for third in the AL East. They have lost two of three in their last two series though. The two teams will face Thursday night. Jack Flaherty will be on the mound for the Tigers. He is 1-4 with a 3.84 ERA. Nick Pivetta is 2-3 with a 4.20 ERA on the year and will be on the mound for the Red Sox.

The Tigers are 17th in the majors in runs scored, while sitting 19th in batting average, 22nd in base percentage, and 19th in slugging. Kerry Carpenter has been great this year. Still, the Tigers will be missing him as Carpenter is the 10-Day IL with back issues. This will put more pressure on Javier Baez. Baez is hitting just .199 on the year, with a .228 on-base percentage. He has nine doubles and a home run, leading to 23 RBIs. He has also stolen six bases and scored 13 times.
Riley Greene continues to score a ton of runs. He is hitting .232 on the year with a .335 on-base percentage. He has ten doubles, a triple, and nine home runs. This has led to 20 RBIs. Further, he has scored 35 times this year. Rounding out the top producers this year is Mark Canha. He is hitting .247 this year but with a .360 on-base percentage. He has ten doubles and six home runs, leading to 23 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Tigers pitching is tenth in team ERA while sitting seventh in WHIP and 12th in opponent batting average. Kenta Maeda will be on the mound for the Tigers in this one. Meanwhile, Ceddanne Rafela leads the team in RBIs this year. Rafela is not hitting well, hitting just .206 on the year with a .235 on-base percentage. He has nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs, leading to 28 RBIs. Rafela has also scored 26 times.
Scoring plenty of runs this year is Tyler O'Neill. He is hitting .236 this year, with six doubles and team-leading 11 home runs. This has led to 17 RBIs. Further, he has scored 29 times this year. He is 4-5 on the year but had a 1.90 ERA and a .99 WHIP. That places Houck fourth in the majors in ERA. In his last two starts, Houck has pitched 13 innings, giving up just one run in those games.

Neither offense is great this year. Both teams are also missing major components to their offense currently. Both teams are also solid on the mound. Kenta Maeda has been solid in many of his recent starts, but Tanner Houck has been solid as well. Overall, the Red Sox have been better though, and will get the win in this one.
