Once wearing a Punisher-themed knee brace, San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan is unabashedly a huge fan of comic books. Frank Castle aka The Punisher is Duncan's favorite character, but when it came to choosing a name for his newborn daughter, the future Hall of Famer decided to pay homage to another comic book character.

Choosing the name Quill for his daughter, Duncan explained on Richard Jefferson's and Channing Frye's Road Trippin' podcast that he picked the name because of Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy, whose real name is Peter Quill.

“Did you name her Quill like…” Frye began to ask Duncan.

“Peter Quill, yeah,” Duncan said finishing Fyre's sentence for him.

Jefferson didn't get the reference so Frye, who similar to Duncan is a fan of comic books, explained it to him.

“[It's from] Guardians of the Galaxy,” Frye said. “Starlord, his original name is Peter Quill and he's like really cool as s—t.”

For those of you that may have only saw the movie and never read the comics, Starlord is played by Chris Pratt. Duncan is a true fan though and has read the comics. But he did note that his girlfriend Vanessa Macias is a writer, so the name has a dual meaning for the couple.

“My girlfriend writes a lot too, so it's like a pen quill,” Duncan said. “It's a combination of all of the things.”

Duncan was a one-of-a-kind player throughout his legendary career with the Spurs. And now thanks to Duncan's love for Starlord, his daughter will have a one-of-a-kind name to match her father's Hall-of-Fame career.
