Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards struggled to be productive in his preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite his meager performance, D'Angelo Russell expressed his satisfaction and still praised the rookie for what he showed on the court, as per Star Tribune‘s Chris Hine.

Edwards along with the rest of the rookie class performed without getting the full benefit of playing in the summer league and also experienced a shortened training camp which could've helped them adjust better heading to preseason proceedings.

The former Georgia standout was limited to only five points on two-of-nine shooting from the field to go with four rebounds and an assist through 25 minutes played. Despite his performance, his numbers are expected to see an upswing once he gets used to the competition in the big leagues in the coming games.

Russell took it lightly as he tallied 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists in 22 minutes of action while his running mate in Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Seldom-used sophomore guard Jaylen Nowell picked up the slack and broke out with 22 points on 7/11 field goal shooting in only 13 minutes of playing time. Edwards being able to contribute more in the scoring department could've helped the Timberwolves as they suffered a defeat in a tightly-contested encounter via a 107-105 loss.

Both teams will have another matchup against each other on December 14 and hopefully, Anthony Edwards will get to have a better outing from the field and help lift his team this time around.
