The NBA has seen plenty of technicals in the last few nights, from Patrick Beverley getting ejected after tossing the ball in the stands to Nick Nurse losing his cool over a foul call. However, the prize for the strangest technical foul call came in a matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets.

The Timberwolves had already received two technical fouls with two minutes remaining in the second quarter when guard Jeff Teague drove towards the paint against P.J. Tucker.

As Teague went up for the shot, Tucker smacked his arm, a clear foul. Teague flailed after the contact, and the referee correctly signaled for a shooting foul.

That was when things got weird. The referee signaled for a tech almost immediately after calling the foul, pointing at Teague. The point guard stared in disbelief as his teammates raised their arms in shock and looked on disgustedly. Derrick Rose pleaded for an explanation, while Taj Gibsons could only scratch his chin in confusion:

This was definitely one of the weirder technical fouls in recent memory, and perhaps we will get a better explanation as to what happened later. It seems like the ref gestured as if Teague exaggerated his flailing in order to catch a piece of Tucker, but this seems like a bit of a stretch.

Thankfully for their fans, the tech wouldn't hurt the team in the long run, as the Timberwolves would recover from the odd call to go on a run and eventually get the win. With the victory, the team improved their record to a split 12-12 and continue to remain in the early playoff hunt.
