The Minnesota Timberwolves are off to a strong start this season, with a huge victory over the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night getting them to 3-1. Karl-Anthony Towns was one of three Timberwolves starters with at least 25 points, joining D'Angelo Russell (29 points) and Anthony Edwards (25 points).

Towns has sometimes let his emotions get the better of him on the court, but he was praised Wednesday for staying ā€œstoicā€ and ā€œZen-likeā€ against Milwaukee. When asked about this, the Timberwolves star went on an impassioned rant and had a message for the fans:

Towns continued with a similar message later on how important it is to be able to lead by example by not crossing the line from playing with passion to losing one's cool. Via The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski:

ā€œI understood the assignment when these guys look up to me and they look up to my attitude and my response to situations are,ā€ Towns said. ā€œSo just being very, I guess you could say, stoic, or not saying anything, so I donā€™t feed them the energy that they think itā€™s OK to start doing that.ā€

Towns and the Timberwolves are trying to change the narrative around the franchise this season. Minnesota has gotten so used to losing a lot of games, and the beginning of training camp was marred by the firing of president Gersson Rosas.

But this young Timberwolves team is now bringing the fight to the hardwood and looking like a feisty, competitive team. There's still a long way to go this season, but Minnesota might no longer be a pushover under head coach Chris Finch. Towns is going to do his best to make the Timberwolves relevant again, and that means playing with a ton of energy and being a leader.
