Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns put on an absolute show in the first quarter on Thursday against the Indiana Pacers.
Towns scored 23 points in the first quarter while shooting 8-of-14 from the field. Indiana had no answers for KAT, who is looking to lead the Timberwolves to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
KAT establishes a new career best for most points in a single quarter with 23 on 8-of-14 shooting. Minnesota leads 35-26 after one period. #Twolves

Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the best players in the NBA. The former No. 1 overall pick entered Thursday averaging 23.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 51.9 percent overall, 39.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Towns, who will probably finish with a double-double on Thursday, has 39 of those on the season. The two-time All-Star is getting better and better as the season moves along. Minnesota is lucky to have a franchise player in Towns who loves the game and is committed to improving every night.
The Timberwolves need to surround Towns with more help, though. He's not going to score 23 points in a quarter all the time.
Fellow max player Andrew Wiggins isn't consistent enough to be the second best player on the team. Derrick Rose, who is the second-leading scorer on Minnesota, comes off the bench and is on a minutes restriction.
The Timberwolves need to sign another high-level player this summer and get KAT a proper Robin.
