Luol Deng is singing the praises of teammate Derrick Rose. Though both with the Minnesota Timberwolves now, the pair have a history stretching back to their days with the Chicago Bulls when Tom Thibodeau was in charge of that outfit. Deng believes Rose knows what is expected of him and is ready to get back to a high level.

“There’s a mindset, and it’s hard to describe sometimes, but if you play for a coach and you thrived and you were at your best, coming back you know exactly what you did every night and what was asked of you,” Deng said to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

“For Derrick, I’m happy that he’s starting the season here. I’m looking forward to seeing him get back to the level he can. I still believe he has a lot that he can offer. He’s going to be a big key for what we do here.”

It's unrealistic to believe that Rose can return to his MVP form of 2011, but he has the tools to fill the role of a scoring guard off the bench. He's not the same player he once was, but maybe reuniting with Thibodeau for a full season is exactly what he needs. Furthermore, Deng is hoping the same is true for him.

After his situation turned sour with the Los Angeles, Deng needed a chance at redemption. That chance was given to him by Thibodeau, and now he is looking to cash in on the opportunity.
