The Minnesota Timberwolves are finalizing a deal to add veteran assistant Jerry Sichting to Ryan Saunders' coaching staff, according to Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Sichting was an assistant for the Timberwolves for quite some time, first joining the coaching staff in 1995 and serving as an assistant under Flip Saunders through 2005.

The 62-year-old then spent a few years as an assistant at Marquette before returning to Minnesota in 2008, where he held a post as an assistant through 2010.

Sichting then began an NBA tour of sorts, serving as a Golden State Warriors assistant (2010-2011), a Washington Wizards assistant (2012-2013), a Phoenix Suns assistant (2013-2015), and most recently holding a post as a New York Knicks assistant from 2016 through the end of last season.

So, needless to say, Sichting is well-traveled, and due to the fact that Ryan is the late Flip's son, there is some familiarity between the two parties.

Sichting also had a 10-year playing career. He played his collegiate basketball at Purdue University and was originally selected by the Golden State Warriors in the fourth round of the 1979 NBA Draft. However, Sichting never actually played for the Warriors, instead starting his career with the Indiana Pacers in 1980.

Jerry Sichting spent five seasons with the Pacers before joining the Boston Celtics for the 1985-86 campaign, where he won a championship. Overall, the Martinsville, In. native resided in Boston for two and a half years before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers midway through the 1987-88 season. Sichting also spent time with the Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks.
