Timberwolves want to trade Jimmy Butler anywhere but Rockets
There really hasn’t been any progress on a trade with any team as everyone knows Butler will just be a rental and will leave in free agency next summer.
There was a rumor going around about the Houston Rockets offering four first round picks for Butler. However, it seems like the Timberwolves do not want to trade him to the Rockets, per Marc Stein of the New York Times.
The Wolves, in short, want to trade Butler pretty much anywhere but Houston. But if the Rockets’ offer between now and then is indeed the best offer that surfaces, Minnesota would be foolish to just dismiss it.
Had the Rockets included either Eric Gordon or P.J. Tucker along with those four future first-round picks in their most recent offer, we might have already seen a deal. But Houston is clearly trying to make this trade happen without giving up either one of those players.
If the Rockets include either Gordon or Tucker, it seems like a deal could be made. The Timberwolves do not want to completely rebuild in any Butler trade. They want to continue to be competitive and battle for a playoff spot in a tough Western Conference.
It also seems that as of now, Minnesota’s stance is to not trade Jimmy Butler to Houston to not further bolster an already-powerhouse of a team. As the season unfolds and we get closer to the trade deadline, it will be interesting to see what transpires here.
