The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the verge of making a major decision that will have a significant impact on the entire organization for the years to come. Unfortunately for Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, this might not be in their best interest.

According to NBA insiders Shams Charania and  Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the Timberwolves are now taking the necessary steps to bring in Nuggets president Tim Connelly to Minnesota to be the team's next head honcho:

The Timberwolves are in serious talks with Denver Nuggets president Tim Connelly about the franchise’s vacant President of Basketball Operations role, sources tell The Athletic. The Timberwolves recently requested permission from the Nuggets to speak with Connelly, and the sides have moved beyond exploratory conversations, sources said.

There have been no agreements reached yet, and nothing appears imminent, sources said.

Connelly has been with the Nuggets since 2013, playing a major role in the selection of reigning back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic during the 2014 NBA Draft. Connelly has since built the team around Jokic, adding the likes of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. via the draft. Needless to say, his departure to Minnesota would be a significant blow for the Nuggets.

The Timberwolves, on the other hand, have had this post vacant since they fired Gersson Rosas in September of last year. They operated without a president at the helm during the 2021-22 season and it is clear that they won't be doing the same for the upcoming campaign.
