Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns powered his team to a season-opening win over the Detroit Pistons. After the game, an emotional Towns dedicated the win and the game ball to his late mother.

Towns, with the game ball in his hands, admitted that he promised his late mother to get this win on opening night.

“It was heavy, it was different. I'm happy just got this for her. I told her I want to get this win and give her this ball.”

Peep the full interview below where Towns also gave his father a shoutout. In his first game back since March, the Wolves star flirted with a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.

Towns tragically lost his mother due to COVID-19 in April. Earlier this month, he also revealed that he lost six other relatives to the coronavirus. The former first overall pick also admitted that his mother's passing has greatly affected his mental health. Even basketball hasn't given him joy as it usually does.

“I've never been in a mentally good place since (his mother) went in the hospital. … I wouldn't say (basketball) is therapy for me at all,” Towns said per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

It was definitely an inspired performance from Towns. And from the looks of it, his Timberwolves teammates fed off his energy. After all, a total of six Wolves scored in double-figures led by Malik Beasley who had 23. D'Angelo Russell added 18 points, Anthony Edwards had 15, Josh Okogie chipped in 12, and Jarrett Culver added 10 points.
