As expected, the Minnesota Timberwolves have waived backup center Jordan Hill. After seeing Cole Aldrich play better than him last season, and the team being able to select Justin Patton in last week’s draft, it made their decision of parting ways with him easier to make.

More importantly for the Wolves, they have created an additional $4 million in cap space, which will be very important for them this summer, as they try to be aggressive in pursuing another free agent. They will now have over $19 million to work with to lure in a big-name power forward or point guard to their fold.

Hill was plagued with injuries this past season and was only able to appear in seven games for the Timberwolves, where he averaged 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. The team hoped he could provide them with quality minutes off the bench, but it did not happen. He will become an unrestricted free agent once he clears waivers and could sign with any team that shows interest in him.

He will only be 30-years-old this July and still has a lot of game left in the tank, but he will need to prove that he can remain healthy and be back to his old self if he wants to resurrect his career in the NBA. However, teams can turn to him this off-season if they are looking for a veteran big man, who will not command a lucrative salary.
