Having seen Ivica Zubac‘s improved game towards the end of the regular season, Timofey Mozgov has been impressed with what he's seen from him so far. Despite giving up his spot in the starting unit to the rookie, the 30-year-old Russian still has plenty of good words to say about the youngster.

When asked to talk about the development the 19-year-old Croatian has shown, Mozgov admitted that he is a very talented player and has the potential to become a regular starter someday, but for now he thinks Zubac is not ready for that role yet and is still a work in progress.

With the Lakers trying their best to speed up their rebuilding process, it will be important for them to give Zubac more playing time in the future to gain added experience under his belt. The good news for them is Zubac has already shown glimpses of his true potential and is mature beyond his years, something that was evident when he accepted his assignment to the Lakers' D-League affiliate earlier in the season.

Zubac's 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game this year may seem pedestrian, but there's been more to his production than he has contributed to the team. The most notable is the feeling of optimism he has given their fans, that he can be part of their plans in the coming years together with the Lakers' young core. If all goes according to plan, Zubac would have established himself as worthy of becoming the team's undisputed starter.
