NFL wide receivers aren’t usually considered wonky, as they have to be one of the fastest players on the field. This makes A.J. Brown a unique case for wide receivers in today’s NFL. He’s a standout receiving weapon for the Tennessee Titans in spite of the fact that he’s considered large by NFL standards.

He was a great asset for the Titans during their incredible run to the AFC Championship last season, becoming a favored target for Ryan Tannehill. What many didn’t realize is that Brown actually achieved something incredible in his rookie campaign.

At 6’0″ and 226lbs, Brown has a body mass index (BMI) of 30.6. While he’s not really a big player compared to the linemen he plays with, he’s considered a huge player for wide receivers. However, he’s turned his unique physique into a weapon as he is now the first 30-plus BMI player to post over 1,000 receiving yards since 2001.

Pro Football Reference noted that there’s been only one player who’s done this prior to Brown in David Boston. Boston played for the Arizona Cardinals and achieved the feat twice in 2000 and 2001.

Nonetheless, a neat little statistical oddity that has no real impact on what happens next for the Titans.
