Due to salary cap restrictions, the St. Louis Blues are expected to have to make some significant moves in the offseason, even after shipping Ville Husso to Detroit. For one, it's believed that Vladimir Tarasenko could seek a trade away from the franchise, and now it's also understood that Torey Krug has been made available for trade.

After struggling through injury in the playoffs, Krug's tenure with the Blues could be coming to an early end. He's currently signed on a seven-year, $45.5 million deal which he inked in 2019. The deal was backloaded, however, so he's still due to be paid $37.5 million over the next five seasons.

While Krug won't come with a cheap contract, he's an experienced defender who could fit into most second-lines, and potentially even as a first-line defender. The left-hander is 31 years old, but could still be a valuable piece for various teams across the league.

With all that in mind, here are three of the best destinations for Torey Krug in a trade this offseason.

Torey Krug Trade Destinations

3. Los Angeles Kings

The LA Kings are expected to continue to be active in the offseason after acquiring Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild. After upgrading the offense, the Kings would be wise to turn their focus to defense, where they have a need on the left side. Pairing Krug with a veteran like Drew Doughty could be an excellent line for the Kings, who should be looking to upgrade on that side of the defense by any means necessary.

With Krug having been made available, the Kings should be at the forefront of his market and willing to absorb his contract. He is the type of player who could make a big difference in a playoff push, and that's the exact profile of player the Kings should be looking to bring on board.

2. Ottawa Senators

Heading into the offseason, it was clear the Senators would want to make a splash on both offense and defense. After landing Alex DeBrincat in a trade with the Blackhawks, it's clear the Senators are looking to jump into playoff contention. They'll want to next address the defense in order to achieve their goal of reaching the playoffs.  While Krug doesn't exactly lineup with the timeline of their core, adding a veteran leader on defense could help the development of some of the younger players in Ottawa.

The Senators still have plenty of cap space to work with, so they'd be able to afford Krug's contract without too much trouble. While he's not a world-beater by any stretch, Krug could be a valuable piece for the Senators as they look to continue their development.

1. Detroit Red Wings

One of the teams most capable of making an offseason splash, the Red Wings have a plethora of cap space at their disposal. Detroit has the makings of a quality young team, but they're lacking some veteran leadership to aid with the development of their young talent. With Calder Trophy-winning right defenseman Moritz Seider making big strides, they could reasonably consider trading for Krug in order to pair Seider with an experienced defenseman.

After trading for goalie Ville Husso, the Red Wings may just be getting started in the offseason market, and the 31-year-old Krug would be a solid addition to their ranks as they look to build a solid defense in front of Husso.
