The match Tottenham’s Erik Lamela played against Arsenal was a roller-coaster ride, to say the least.

With the clubs playing in the latest chapter of the North London Derby, Lamela scored an incredible nutmeg rabona goal that gave Tottenham a 1-0 lead over Arsenal in the first half of the match:

The 29-year-old was only in the match because forward Son Heung-min went down with a hamstring injury and had to be substituted. In came the Argentinian at the 19th minute, who scored a spectacular goal to give his side an early advantage against a rival.

However, that was only half of what happened to the Tottenham winger, as he was also sent off later in the match. After receiving his first yellow card in the 69th minute, he received another one in the 76th minute and was sent off the field. In doing so, he became just the second player in the history of the North London derby to score a goal and receive a red card in the same match after Emmanuel Adebayor in 2012:

The goal, however, was Lamela’s first against Arsenal, which also ended a streak of 36 matches without scoring a goal in what was also his 250th appearance for Tottenham.

Despite his incredible goal, Tottenham would eventually lose the match, 2-1. Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard would score an equalizer for the Gunners in the 44th minute before Alexandre Lacazette found the back of the net on a penalty in the 64th minute to give his club a lead they would not relinquish.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho wasn't pleased with the refs after the game.

Nevertheless, Lamela’s nutmeg rabona goal and his journey of a game is one that will not be soon forgotten. Sunday has proven to be quite the eventful day on the pitch, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a first-half hat trick in Serie A play.
