Tottenham continues to be in poor form, losing two straight Premier League games and now sitting in eighth spot in the table. Antonio Conte is putting their struggles down to the inability to actually strengthen the squad in January.

Spurs managed to sign Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentactur but in the process, they lost Dele Alli, Bryan Gil, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso. In Conte's eyes, losing four players, despite having minimal roles at various times, has made Tottenham weaker.

“What happened in January is not easy. Four players left in January. Four important players for Tottenham, two have arrived. So even numerically instead of reinforcing yourself you may have, on paper, weakened.

“Then, precise choices were made for many reasons. But I certainly never expected that in January, four players who I still considered important would change their shirts for a thousand reasons. This shows the difficulty. Tottenham in the last session of the summer transfer market and in January changed eight players.”

Spurs were chasing the signatures of both Adama Traore and Luis Diaz, but Barcelona beat them to the punch for the former Wolves man. Diaz meanwhile, who is one of the most promising prospects in Europe, snubbed Tottenham for Liverpool, who bought him from Porto.

Conte has reiterated it time and time again, Spurs fans need to be patient as he tries to make the club relevant. It's not an overnight project, unfortunately, which means the side will also need to make some major moves in the summer transfer window as well.
