In a move that was not talked about a lot before it happened, the Atlanta Hawks dealt the former All-Star center Dwight Howard to the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets sent guard Marco Belinelli, center Miles Plumlee and the 41st selection in the upcoming draft for Howard and the 31st selection.

Howard has had a slow season in his hometown team, as he got a reduced role in the offense and was not as effective in defense as before. He has signed a massive, 3-year, $70.5 million deal with the Hawks last summer, but lasted only one year before the Hawks franchise moved on.

Hawks seemingly have some kind of summer plan, as this was mostly done as a salary dump. They need to resign All-Star forward Paul Millsap this summer and possibly bring in more talent that will help them be more effective against Eastern Conference powerhouses like the Cavaliers and, possibly, the Celtics.

Most of the Twitter reactions to the trade were either ridiculing the decline of Dwight Howard, or ridiculing the mistake Marc J. Spears made when announcing the trade originally, with an expected sighting of a “Crying Jordan” meme.
