The Seattle Seahawks have already had an action-packed offseason. General manager Jon Schneider just shipped off quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, drastically altering the course of this offseason and the franchise overall. The Seahawks have officially transitioned out of win-now mode for the first time in years. However, they still have tons of cap space to spend. Seattle must resist the urge to try and rebuild right away through free agency, as that approach is seldom successful. There are plenty of free agents who would hurt the Seahawks instead of help them this offseason.

Here are two free agents the Seahawks must avoid signing.

2. Kyle Fuller

Fuller seems like a somewhat logical fit for Seattle, but he's not. With the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks declared that they will not be competitive for a couple of seasons. That means signing players like Fuller is off the table. The former Denver Bronco is still a good player, but he's also on the wrong side of 30. He'll likely be looking for a two or three-year contract. Seattle will probably be rebuilding throughout that entire time frame, making investing money in an aging defensive back a terrible idea.

There are several other corners who would be a better fit for Seattle than Fuller. Donte Jackson of the Carolina Panthers and Isaiah Oliver of the Atlanta Falcons both come to mind. Both are young, solid players who still have plenty of room to improve, and either would start for the Seahawks. Seattle should be looking for young, potential-filled players that could act as foundational pieces for a rebuild. That certainly does not describe Fuller.

1. Brandon Scherff

Signing big-money free agents is always an appealing prospect, but it would be a huge mistake for the Seahawks here. Scherff will likely be one of the highest-paid players of this free agent class at 30 years old. His age doesn't align with the Seahawks rebuilding process, and his injury history doesn't make this any more appealing. Scherff hasn't played a full season since 2016, automatically making him a risky signing. He may be the best offensive guard in the NFL, but his age and history of injuries should keep the Seahawks from ever pursuing him.

While Scherff would be a terrible signing, there are plenty of potential offensive line upgrades in this free agent class. Cam Robinson of the Jacksonville Jaguars is coming off of one of the best years of his career, and he's only 26. He's not a top-level offensive lineman, but he has room to improve and he shouldn't demand a huge contract. Those two factors should make Robinson a hugely appealing target to the Seahawks. Austin Corbett of the Los Angeles Rams is another good option. Poaching a starting lineman from a division rival is an enticing prospect, and Corbett has his age going for him. He's only 26, and he just started in the Super Bowl. Bringing him to Seattle would be a huge victory for the Seahawks.
