The UConn men's basketball program landed a commitment from guard Ahmad Nowell, according to a Sunday tweet from 247Sports.

“I chose UConn because they checked all the boxes and had everything I wanted in a school,” Nowell said, via 247Sports. “From their playing style, coaching style, what they like to do, relationships, players and staff, everything went together. Also and most importantly they're winners. I like to win so everything just clicked.”

The 4-star guard from Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, Pa., had offers from Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, Kansas, Memphis and St. John's, according to 247Sports. Nowell will join a 2024 UConn recruiting class that features four-star forward Isaiah Abraham, who committed to the Huskies earlier this month.

UConn's 2023 basketball recruiting class is made up of one 5-star recruit, four 4-star recruits and one transfer. 5-star guard Stephon Castle committed to the program in 2021. Guard Cam Spencer, formerly from Loyola Maryland and Rutgers, transferred to UConn in June.

UConn finished its 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 31-8 and a 13-7 record against conference opponents. Its dominant March Madness run was capped off with a 76-59 win over San Diego State in the National Championship. Center Adama Sanogo, who signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, earned a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double during the title game.

UConn head men's basketball coach Dan Hurley agreed to a six-year, $32.1 million contract in June.

“I am thrilled to have Dan Hurley leading our men's basketball program,” UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict said in a June release. “The work he and his staff have done over the past five years in rebuilding our program, which culminated in the Huskies once again reaching the pinnacle of college basketball, has been nothing short of remarkable.

“I know all of UConn Nation is ecstatic that Dan will continue to lead this program for the foreseeable future.”
