Justin Gaethje has made it known early on that he will not appreciate it if the UFC hands Conor McGregor an instant title shot when he returns.

Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor immediately made his lightweight title fight pitch just moments after reigning champion Charles Oliveira defended his title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.

Aware that the UFC might shock the world and grant McGregor's wish as soon as he makes his return, No. 1 lightweight contender Justin Gaethje warned the promotion that things could get ugly if “The Notorious” gets a title shot over him.

“He [McGregor] is so irrelevant. He has not won a fight since 2016 in the lightweight division. I’m ranked number one, I saw they updated the rankings, I’m number one now – that feels pretty good,” Gaethje said via TMZ Sports.

“I’m fighting for the belt, man,” he continued. “My whole life I’ve been working towards this, that is what’s next. If not, I’ll f***ing burn it down, it doesn’t matter. I will show up and start throwing dollies everywhere, I don’t know what the answer is.”

However, this is not how Oliveira feels about the situation. For the champ, if he gets the chance to pocket insane amount of money by fighting McGregor, he will definitely do it.

“If I had the chance to fight Conor for money today, I would,” Oliveira admitted. “The belt is mine regardless. The division has to get by and wait a little bit.”

It is yet to be determined who's getting the title shot next in the UFC's lightweight division. At this point, top-ranked fighters such as Gaethje, Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev are among the favorites.
