Jorge Masvidal has become quite the name in the UFC alongside his star manager Malki Kawa. Gone are the days where he would lose a split decision on an undercard while putting in minimal effort.
Masvidal made the big career turnaround after knocking out Darren Till and Ben Askren. The seeds for his stardom were planted even before that when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in early 2017.
Now Jorge Masvidal is a figure people follow intently as they wait to see what is next for him. He is in a tricky spot after losing two fights in a row to the current champion, Kamaru Usman.
Masvidal has not competed since April of this year, suffering a second-round KO loss to Usman at UFC 261. Since then things have been a bit murky in terms of his future, is he looking for money fights or a title shot?
Speaking to MMAJunkie, Jorge Masvidal's manager, Malki Kawa, gave an update on what could be next for ‘Gamebred' and what the next steps are.
“We’re just trying to see what the next steps are,” Kawa said. “There’s so many options there. We just got to get out to Vegas and meet with the UFC, and we are planning on doing that after (Paul vs. Woodley fight week). Hopefully, in the next two weeks, we can get out there and see what’s going on with him.”
Fans have been hoping for a long-awaited fight with Leon Edwards following the famous “three-piece and a soda” incident a few years ago. Right now, their only focus is on getting back to a title fight, most likely against Kamaru Usman.
“We’re looking for the fight that makes the most sense to get his way back to a title,” Kawa said. “All this, ‘Oh he ducked this guy and ducked that guy.' Masvidal’s not ducking anyone.'
