Reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is sure about a lot of things involving his bitter rival Colby Covington.
Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington went at it again for another 25 minutes inside the octagon at UFC 268. In the end, the defending UFC welterweight champ still got his hand raised, scoring a unanimous decision win over the challenger.
The pair did not fail to deliver with Usman almost finishing Covington in the second round with a flurry of powerful punches. However, “Chaos” managed to get back to his feet and answered back, hurting “The Nigerian Nightmare” in the championship rounds with a set of solid combinations of his own.
Speaking after his successful UFC title defense, Usman admitted that he “wanted to get crazy” with Covington and finish his opponent in style. However, he is also well aware that it would be unbecoming for “the best” fighter in the world to do that.
“He's tough. He's super tough,” Usman said via ESPN. “I wanted to get crazy and get him out of there. But that's not what the best do.”
Usman and Covington first clashed at UFC 245 in December 2019 with the former winning via fifth-round TKO. Since then, there has been bad blood between the two colossal welterweights and they certainly proved it with their back and forth hoopla leading to the fight.
Despite winning both the fight and the trash-talk, Usman knows Covington will still run his mouth.
“There was a lot of trash talk, a lot of bad blood,” the UFC champ stressed. “I'm sure there's going to still be some after tonight. But this guy is a tough son of a b—-. He's tough as s—.”
