It's been a while since Jake Shields' name flashed on headlines since his retirement from the UFC. However, the former MMA great brought some attention to himself on Thursday after sharing a controversial opinion on social media.

Out of nowhere, Shields took to Twitter and shared an unprovoked take for all to see. The former UFC fighter shared his thoughts on trans athletes, a controversial topic that has been debated over recent years.

In the sporting world, especially in MMA, this has been an ongoing dilemma. There have been some trans women athletes competing against women and dominating the competition. Although it's completely fine for an individual to be trans, many question the fairness of a trans woman competing with other women.

Even so, it's not like this is a topic Jake Shields tweets about often. He does tend to tweet about politics and mainly sticks to the COVID-19 vaccine. However, it appears the former UFC fighter was feeling some kind of way about trans athletes on Thursday.

We've seen and heard UFC announcer Joe Rogan touch on this subject before on his podcast. It is something to pay attention to in regards to fairness, but it's uncalled for to go after all trans people in a single tweet.

For now, Jake Shields seems to be enjoying retirement while spouting out odd takes through Twitter. At the end of the day, everyone has a right to compete in sports, no matter their situation. Hopefully one day, society will be more accepting of everyone, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, religion, or culture.
