With more American-born players beginning to emerge in top European football leagues, the Premier League is set to welcome the newest United States star to England. Leeds United, who just managed to avoid relegation and remain in England's top flight, has announced the huge signing of USMNT star Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.

After avoiding the drop into the second division, Leeds are quickly looking to bolster the squad with the addition of Aaronson on what is a reported $30 million deal.

Aaronson hails from Medford, New Jersey. He played two seasons in the MLS from 2019-20 with the Philadelphia Union before joining Salzburg for the 2020-21 season.

Aaronson played two seasons in Austria's top flight where he served mainly as an attacking midfielder. The 21-year-old registered 4 goals and 4 assists across 26 appearances last year, winning the league for the second time in as many seasons.

As a member of the USMNT, Aaronson featured in 11 matches during World Cup Qualifying, starting 7 games. He scored 2 goals and added an assist during the qualification matches, helping the United States book its ticket to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

Aaronson's deal with Leeds makes him the second most expensive American-born transfer in world football history, trailing only the $70 million Chelsea paid to acquire Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund. Aaronson's $30 million transfer fee comes in just ahead of the price Juventus paid to bring Weston McKennie to the squad.

Leeds will be hoping Aaronson can further develop into a star, and American fans will be intrigued to see his progress as he looks to be a first-team regular in the Premier League.
