USWNT legend Alex Morgan is heading back to her home state to join the new National Women’s Soccer League club San Diego Wave, and she's definitely hyped to represent California.

The Orlando Pride reached an agreement to trade Morgan to the Wave, although the deal cannot be completed until the NWSL expansion draft set on December 16.

Morgan, for her part, expressed her excitement to go home and join the new San Diego franchise. The USWNT forward also shared her belief that she sees herself being part of the Wave until she retires from the game.

“I think something I’m really excited about is that I’ve made a long-term commitment to this club,” Moran told The Associated Press. “I see myself being in San Diego through my playing career. I see my family settling down in San Diego.”

Alex Morgan's arrival in San Diego certainly gives the Wave a huge boost as they start their debut season in 2022. After all, they are getting a veteran scorer who has led the USWNT to two World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019.

In five seasons in Orlando, Morgan has scored 23 goals and made nine assists. Throughout her club career, including a one-year stint in Europe with the Tottenham Hotspur, she has accumulated 40 goals and 20 assists.

While she's happy to join the Wave, however, Morgan admitted that the Pride will always have a special place in her heart.

“I really did love my time in Orlando, it was six years, give or take, with pregnancy and a couple of other hurdles, world championships and things like that. But it was an incredible run and I just wish that we could have made more of an impact on the field,” Morgan added. “I wish I could have left with more of a grin on my face knowing that we had to accomplished what we set our minds to in Year 1.”
