UPDATE: Valheim has just hit 3 million units sold, not even a month since release. It is also now within the top 250 best-reviewed games on Steam.
VALHEIM HAS BROUGHT OVER 3 MILLION VALKYRIES TO THE AFTERLIFE
The game made headlines for becoming an instant hit on Steam. It may be this spring's biggest surprise, hitting record numbers in just a short time. Today, the game hits another milestone, reaching 3 million units sold on Steam.
In less than two weeks, Valheim has sold 2 million copies, earning the company approximately $40 million USD in revenue. The game then reached 267,000+ concurrent players on February 15, making it the third most-played game on Steam. Just sitting behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, there's still a long way ahead for the Viking experience simulator before it beats Steam's two staples. However, it has since overtaken games such as Grand Theft Auto V, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, Rust, and Apex Legends.
The developers at Iron Gate Studio aren't resting on their laurels, either. Acknowledging that the game is still in early access, the devs have big plans for Valheim for its immediate feature. According to the devs, the game is mostly content complete. For 2021, they have ambitious plans, with four major updates planned out throughout the year. More content releases will help Valheim retain its core audience, while the increasing scale of the game will continue to attract new players.
The devs have more pressing concerns to fix, however. Over the past week, players have reported a game-breaking, world-ending bug. This bug completely deletes players' worlds and characters. The team is still having a hard time fixing the problem, mostly because the issue is hard to replicate. In the meantime, they recommend saving back-ups of the game's character and world files. They also warn players not to quit the game using ‘Alt+F4.' Instead, players should log-out and quit Valheim properly, as most reports come from players who quit the game with the shortcut.
