In just 38 games, Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic has destroyed many defenders with his deadly stepback. On Monday night, he claimed yet another victim when facing the Los Angeles Lakers:

Doncic gets guard Josh Hart, who is regarded as a fairly good defender, lurching in several directions before nailing a three-pointer at the top of the key as the shot clock expires.

Doncic had an excellent game against the Lakers, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and two assists. However, it wasn't enough for the team, and they fell by a final score of 107-97 to Los Angeles.

The 19-year-old Slovenian forward shows poise beyond his years on the basketball court, and he is the early front-runner for Rookie of the Year, fighting off DeAndre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns.

Already, he has impressed the league with his NBA readiness. He is currently posting an impressive line of 19.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting an effective 37 percent from downtown.

Partly because of Doncic's effectiveness, the Mavericks have launched themselves back to relevancy. Although they hold the second worst record in the Western Conference at 18-22,  they have some impressive wins against good teams. The team was expected to be much worse than they have played, and if Doncic continues to play like this, they will soon be back in the playoffs.
