Having been through a trade before going from the Toronto Raptors to the New Jersey Nets early in his career, forward Vince Carter dished some wisdom on the Kyrie Irving rumors that took the NBA by storm earlier today.
“Hearing that, it's just wowing,” said Carter during an impromptu SportsCenter interview. “But I'll tell you, when we hear things like that as fans we want the band to always stay together. We want them to win as many championships as possible.”
Half-man, half-amazing will have played for his seventh team in the Sacramento Kings when his soon-to-be 20th NBA season gets underway later in the year, a fair share of different experiences that give him a much clearer perspective as a player.
“As athletes, we want to accomplish other goals that maybe the fans don't want to see or don't understand sometimes,” said Carter. “Maybe in Kyrie's mind, that's something he wants to do — now accomplish some things on his own as maybe the only star.”
Irving's decision had been known to the Cavs for roughly a week, but was ultimately uncovered this afternoon, making shockwaves throughout the league and getting most front offices immediately on the phone, vying for his services.
