Vince Carter had quite a memorable career during his time in the NBA. One of the biggest privileges he ever had was to be able to play against two legends of the game in Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

Recently, Carter shared an endearing story from the 2003 NBA All-Star Game. This was MJ's final All-Star appearance before his third and final retirement, and for his part, Vince Carter made sure to honor Jordan in this momentous occasion by giving up his All-Star starting spot to the Chicago Bulls legend. Well, it looks like Kobe never got the memo (h/t SportsCenter on Twitter):

The bit about Carter trying to convince Jordan to take his spot is truly wonderful. With MJ rejecting Carter's pleas several times, VC knew he had to resort to something drastic to make sure that Jordan would agree to start in his last All-Star appearance. Vince Carter's decision to literally walk out of the bench worked and MJ ended up starting the game.

Kobe Bryant, however, was not exactly on the same wavelength. After MJ hit an epic go-ahead basket in overtime, the Los Angeles Lakers icon ended up tying the game in the succeeding play to force the game into a second overtime. Here's the sequence Carter was talking about in the interview:

The West ended up pulling away in the second OT, and they emerged with a 155-145 win, thereby erasing what would have been a truly memorable game-winning shot by Michael Jordan.

If you think about it, though, MJ probably did not expect anything less from Kobe. These two share the same killer mentality and there's just no way Bryant was going to let Jordan get the win ā€” regardless of the circumstance.
