Coming into the 2019 college football season, Virginia cornerback Bryce Hall was seen as first-round talent. Unfortunately, an ankle injury cut Hall's senior season short. The Cavaliers star has played in just six games this season after being named a second-team All-American the year prior.

The left ankle injury has understandably hurt Hall's draft stock but with that dip, a blessing in surprise could be in the Dallas Cowboys' future.

At 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Hall has great size for a cornerback at the next level. The senior cornerback is a natural competitor and that nature shows up in his physical style of play. A sure tackler with elite-level ball skills, Hall is undoubtedly among the 2020 NFL Draft best cornerback prospects.

His man-coverage skills still need work, but his zone coverage is incredibly strong and his talent as a run defender will help any team. The Cowboys have allowed the ninth-most rushing touchdowns so far this season so Hall seems like a natural fit.

In his 2018 junior season, Hall proved himself as one of the best defensive backs in the country. Hall recorded 62 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and an impressive 21 pass deflections.

Virginia's defensive scheme allowed Hall to be a bit of a gambler on defense but when you're as talented as he is, that is often more of a positive than a negative.

Dallas ranks 11th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game so it's not like the Cowboys have a swiss cheese defensive backfield. With that being said, Cowboys starting cornerback Byron Jones is set to be a free agent this offseason.

The Cowboys selected Jones in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft after his record-breaking combine performance. Jones' Cowboys career has been solid so far. The uber-athletic corner has started 73 of his 79 career games and made the Pro Bowl in 2018. At the same time, the fifth-year pro has just two interceptions in his career and is currently nursing an ankle injury.

If Dallas does end up letting Jones go, the Cowboys should target Hall. Depending on how his ankle heals, it's a bit of a risk but in the end, the Cowboys could end up getting a first-round talent in the second or maybe third round.

Hall could very well slip back into the first-round discussion as his talent warrants that kind of draft position. However, as Dallas continues to try and build an elite defense in today's pass-happy NFL, elite cornerback talent is imperative.
