It doesn't matter if he is making just the minimum or if the Golden State Warriors are one of the worst teams in the league. Alec Burks still wants to stay in Oakland.
Burks said via Logan Murdock of NBC Sports Bay Area that he “would love to” stay with the Warriors amid all the trade chatter clouding his name.
It speaks volumes for the Warriors' organization that someone would even want to stay with the team despite all the losing happening in Golden State.
While Golden State's season outlook is definitely headed down the drain at this point, their long-term view still looks promising.
Klay Thompson will come back next season. Stephen Curry, currently out with a hand fracture, and Draymond Green will look to take it easy with their load this season after making five straight Finals. Moreover, the pile-up of losses will grant them a high draft pick next season.
No wonder why Burks, who has had some tough luck with injuries in the past, would want to remain with a championship-caliber organization like the Warriors.
After spending the first eight years of his career with the Utah Jazz, the 6-foot-6 shooting guard bounced around three teams in 2018-19. He signed with the Warriors on a veteran's minimum and is putting a pretty solid season with all the injuries on the roster.
Burks is looking healthy this season and is taking full advantage of his increased opportunity to redeem his career. In 24 games, the former 12th overall pick is averaging a career-best 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.
