When Kevin Durant went down with an apparent Achilles tear in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, one of his Golden State Warriors teammates can't help but remember the time when he himself had to deal with the exact same injury. DeMarcus Cousins also ruptured his Achilles back in February of 2017, and he was sidelined for almost an entire year.

Cousins had a chance to speak with Mark Medina of the Mercury News, where he said that he understands what KD is going and will go through because he was in that situation before.

“I saw K and saw the emotion on his face, I know the feeling. I was the same exact way. It’s unfortunate. It’s a very unfortunate situation.”

However, Cousins isn't someone who will immediately rush to Durant in order to give him some advice on what to do. Yes, they have suffered the same injury, but the former All-Star said that they will talk about it when the right time comes.

“You give him his space and let him go through his ups and downs and emotions. I’ll reach out when it’s the right time. Or he’ll reach out when he feels it’s the right time.”

Durant is expected to miss the entirety of next season while recovering from his injury.

Cousins hasn't been the same player that he once was since fully recovering from his ruptured Achilles. But he remains motivated. He worked hard for an entire year just to be able to play in the NBA again.

He's pretty sure KD will do the same thing.
