The Golden State Warriors could be heading into a new era. As reported by Shams Charania, veteran Draymond Green has decided to turn down his $27.5 million player option and will enter NBA free agency this summer.

Green's agent Rich Paul released a statement shortly after the news broke, via Woj:

“We will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options,” Paul said.

The Warriors have made it crystal clear they would love nothing more than to sign Draymond to a new deal, who has been the heartbeat of this organization for years and a major factor in all four of their championships both on and off the court. But given the Dubs' financial situation, it may be difficult to give Green the type of extension he seeks. With Bob Myers also gone now, that might not help the team sway Dray to staying.

With Green now a free agent, there will be no shortage of interest from a plethora of contenders. In 2022-23, the ex-Michigan State Spartan averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 73 games, his best points total since 2017-18.

To be frank though, Draymond Green is now 32 and I highly doubt he's going to receive a massive offer from the Warriors when they're tax bill is through the roof at the moment. Perhaps he could secure a lucrative deal elsewhere, though.

If this is the end of Green's time in the Bay Area, it was sure sweet. He will go down as a Dubs legend for years to come.

We'll see where Draymond ends up this summer. Maybe he could be back in a Golden State jersey. Never say never.
