Draymond Green is now a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors. However, by his own admission, this title win against the Boston Celtics just hits different. This is exactly why he can't stop talking about it.
In a recent collaboration between Green's and JJ Redick's podcasts, the Warriors star opened up about the exact moment he knew the Celtics were done. At one point in the series, Jaylen Brown came out with a statement that Boston was not afraid of Golden State. While this may have been an indication of bravado from Brown, Green knew at that point in time that the Dubs had the championship in the bag:
“Another thing he said and I sent it to our team, he said, ‘We are not afraid of the Golden State Warriors.' I sent it to our team in the group chat and said, ‘We ARE afraid of the Golden State Warriors,'” said the Warriors star, via Taylor Wirth of Yahoo Sports.
“Because nobody asked you are y’all afraid of us? Why the f–k are you talking about that? He’s like, ‘We are not afraid of them. We will do this and we’ll do that.’ I knew at that point. I’m like, yup, this is baby food and this is over and we’re gonna walk on out of here with a championship.”
This is a perfect example of Green's elite mindset. The fact that he's been through many title runs with the Warriors also helped. Brown, on the other hand, showed a bit of inexperience when he came out with his telling statement — and Dray was more than happy to capitalize on the mistake.
