The NBA made the announcement for the first individual award of the 2021-22 season with Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart bagging the coveted Defensive Player of the Year award. For his part, however, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green isn't too pleased about how the vote went down.

It is not just the DPOY voting that Green has an issue about, though. The Warriors talisman ripped the entire voting system with regard to the inclusion of the media in the vote:

“I think when you look at voting for All-NBA, when you look at voting for Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, MVP, ultimately these things are voted on by the media, which I think is absolutely disgusting,” he said (h/t Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report). “Because these are human beings that could have personal issues against guys because that does happen.”

Fair point from Green here. The voting system is indeed very subjective and it is open to personal interpretation from the members of the media. As the Warriors star points out, these folks are vulnerable to their personal feelings towards the candidates. There's no denying that this could very well compromise the integrity of these individual awards.
