The Golden State Warriors took a hit when it was revealed rookie center James Wiseman had sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee.

It was initially expected the No. 2 pick could miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season, but the Dubs are not ruling anything out. Not yet, at least.

Wiseman is expected to undergo surgery either Thursday or Friday, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. The results of the surgery will apparently determine the length of his absence.

According to Slater, the lack of clarity with respect to the timeline seems to stem from differing opinions on the state of James Wiseman's right knee:

The imaging on Wiseman’s knee is inconclusive. Different experts have different opinions, which isn’t uncommon in these situations. Surgeons often determine the best course of action during the procedure once given a clearer look at the tear. That’s the case with Wiseman. The Warriors and Wiseman won’t know the course of action and expected absence until after the surgery.

The timeline could depend on which operation takes place. A “trim” would likely allow for a quicker return to the floor, per Slater.

Alternatively, a full repair could mean Wiseman would face a 5-7 month recovery, thus rendering him inactive for the remainder of the season.

Slater reported Wiseman and the team have all been “consulted” on the procedural options, but all that is currently known is the “surgical choice and proceeding recovery will be handled with caution and patience.” In other words, not much has been determined.

The Warriors, currently 10th in the Western Conference, will await further word on James Wiseman's status.
