Following his secondary social media scandal, Kevin Durant apologized for his comments on his former coach Billy Donovan and the Oklahoma City Thunder organization, upset at himself for taking debates with fans to that length.

“I have another Instagram account, but that's just for my friends and family. So I wouldn't say I was using it to clap back at anyone,” said Durant during his stay at Tech Crunch in San Francisco, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I use Twitter to engage with fans. I think it's a great way to engage with basketball fans. I happened to take it a little too far.”

“That's what happens sometimes when I get into these basketball debates about what I really love, to play basketball. I don't regret clapping back at anybody or talking to my fans on Twitter. I do regret using my former coach's name and the former organization I played for. That was childish. That was idiotic, all those type of words. I apologize for that.”

Durant has been on a social media rampage ever since being crowned a champion for the first time, constantly engaging in debates with fans on Twitter and even getting two pairs of his Nike KD sneakers as the ultimate get-back to his critics. Having kept a relatively low-profile during his first season with the Warriors, Durant's emotions came to the surface after having validated his decision to play for Golden State, yet still managing to enable petty online battles that can't actually be won.

The 28-year-old forgot to switch to his alter-profile before defending himself from yet another online troll accusing him for leaving to win a championship. Durant mentioned not liking the organization or playing for Donovan while saying the team was only comprised of him and Russell Westbrook.

While this saga of hidden social media handles has made his reputation take yet another hit, it hasn't proven enough for the Finals MVP to stop.

“I don't think I'll stop engaging with fans,” he said. “I really enjoy it and it's a good way to connect us all, but I'll scale back a little bit right now and just focus on playing basketball. I'll move on from that, it was tough to deal with yesterday. I was pretty mad at myself. Definitely want to move on and keep playing basketball.”

With ring night less than a month away, Durant will likely scale back on the banter as the season approaches, but it likely won't be for long until he makes another appearance on social media.
