Stephen Curry had some big shoes to fill as he hosted the ESPYs on Wednesday night. As tradition would have it, the fans were expecting him to come out with savage jabs aimed at his NBA co-stars. Well, the Golden State Warriors superstar gladly obliged — except for one particular Kevin Durant joke.

Peyton Manning dropped one of the most vicious jokes in ESPYs history a few years ago when he decided to throw a haymaker at Kevin Durant. This was after KD decided to turn his back on the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Warriors. Manning decided to hit Curry up right before his hosting stint, and he urged Steph to use that same joke at this year's show:

“When I hosted the ESPYs five years ago, I made a little quip about Kevin Durant wanting to play for a great team that made a lot of headlines,” Peyton told Curry on the phone. “Feel free to use that one because it hasn't aged a day.”

Stephen Curry hilariously agreed with Manning's statement but said that he just wasn't going to go there.

Here's a throwback at Manning's ruthless jab at Durant back in 2017. What makes this very awkward situation so hilarious is how both Durant and Russell Westbrook reacted when Manning used them as the butt of his joke:

That jab obviously didn't sit well with KD (and Russ), and while it's true that the joke is still applicable in this day and age, Curry knew that he just wasn't going to touch this subject.
