Klay Thompson knows that he and Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry are among the best shooters the NBA has ever seen–and there’s an argument they are the best shooting duo in the history of the league, which is why they earned the Splash Bros. nickname. However, for Klay, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is like a “god.”

The Warriors, who faced the Mavs on Wednesday before Nowitzki’s jersey retirement postgame, released a video tribute to commemorate the occasion. Several Dubs players shared their congratulatory remarks and favorite memories with Dirk, but one that really stood out was Thompson’s message for the future Hall of Famer.

“In my book, you’re one of the greatest shooters of all time, obviously the greatest shooting big man of all time,” Thompson said of the Mavs icon. “We might be the Splash Bros, but you’re a Splash God for what you’ve done for the game. thank you, Dirk.”

Klay Thompson certainly couldn’t have said it any better. While often underappreciated, there is no doubt that Dirk Nowitzki changed the game and pioneered the era of mobile shooting big men.

As Stephen Curry said earlier as well, he changed the game, especially on how the power forward position is played, while paving the way for international players to join the NBA and make their own mark. There are other international players before him, but in terms of sheer impact, no one did it quite like Dirk.

The Warriors may have lost Wednesday’s game, but they are certainly lucky to witness the jersey retirement of one of the greatest players to ever step foot on the NBA hardwood.
