Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson posted an emotional message on Instagram dedicated to Kobe Bryant, his “favorite player” growing up.

“No amount of words can express how much Kobe meant to me and my family. Growing up, he was my favorite player on my favorite team… Your legacies will live on, not only thru every hooper who love the game, but with anyone who has a dream and the passion to do whatever it takes to make it a reality. #mambaforever #mambacita”

Thompson's posted a slideshow of images, including a young Klay and his father, Mychal, with Kobe in the Lakers training room. Mychal Thompson played with L.A. from 1987 to 1991, winning two titles, and has been a Lakers color commentator since 2003. Mychal posted the same image after Kobe's death, noting it was first time he took his sons to meet Kobe.

Klay was one of several members of the NBA family at Staples Center on Monday for the “Celebration of Life” memorial service for Kobe and Gianna Bryant. His teammates, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, were also in attendance.

In 2017, the Warriors played the Lakers on the night when Bryant had his No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys retired by the Lakers. Afterwards, Thompson said, “Seeing Kobe's jersey retired was really cool…It motivates us, because he works so hard for that. And seeing all the legends on the court shows you how much everyone respected his work ethic and his ability…I looked up to that man as a player for so long.”
