Golden State Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga went viral on Friday after an explosive dunk during their Summer League game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sure enough, Dubs vet Klay Thompson saw the video as well and couldn't believe what he just witnessed.
During the dying seconds of the second quarter, Kuminga froze his defender with a nifty crossover and gave himself a clear path to the basket. Of course, he put on some showmanship by taking off from near the free-throw line and slamming the ball hard to hype up his teammates and the crowd.
After seeing the video, Klay Thompson couldn't help but repost it on Instagram and react to the epic dunk. The Warriors sharpshooter was simply in awe of his new teammate.
Jonathan Kuminga, for his part, finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists to help lead the Warriors to a 94-84 victory. He also spoke about his explosive dunk right after the contest, noting that he did it to give energy to his team and the fans.
“I just wanted to have a little show out there. I felt like it was going to bring energy for everybody, especially on defense. I didn’t make the dunk last time, but I made it today. I feel like it gave a lot of people energy, and we all played together,” Kuminga told Mark Haynes of ClutchPoints.
Kuminga, the seventh pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has certainly been impressive for the Warriors alongside fellow lottery pick Moses Moody. Thompson surely couldn't wait to play alongside the two rooks and help them unleash their full potential.
