You don't get to see a four-time all-star like Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson be the fourth-best player in his team. And with the addition of superstar center DeMarcus Cousins this summer, he may arguably be the fifth-best Warrior.

With that said, rumor has it that Thompson will be headed to his hometown team Los Angeles Lakers when he becomes a free agent in 2019.  But according to an interview he had with Bay Area News Group's Mark Medina, Thompson says otherwise.

I’ve said it many times before: I would like to be a Warrior for life,” Thompson told Bay Area News Group before hosting a party at Hotel Vitale as a prelude to his first annual Thompson Family Foundation Golf Tournament on Sunday at TPC Harding Park. “Contract negotiations are way down the line. But I think we all have the same interest. I would love to be here for the rest of my career.”

To ensure that, would Thompson entertain securing an extension with the Warriors before or during the 2019-20 season? Or would Thompson prefer to become a free agent in 2019, potentially to maximize his earnings?

“It’s tough to say,” Thompson said. “I’d definitely be interested. But at the end of the day, I’m going to be a free agent in 2019. Number one on my list would obviously be to stay with the Warriors.”

Still at the young age of 27, Klay could just be entering his prime. He has never shot below 40% from deep throughout his career, and he has averaged above 20 points per game in the last four seasons.

Because the Warriors have so many scorers on the team, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Thompson share the bulk of the offense. Thompson just took an average of 16 field goal attempts last season. Who knows what he can do if he had the luxury of taking more than 20 shots a game just like what other teams' superstars do?

It remains to be seen if the Warriors pull a magic trick of retaining their five all-stars in the long run. But until then, they will be busy drinking their champagne and parading down the Bay Area after winning the championship each year.
